What you'll learn
1. Understanding Internal Experience in MI: Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of what constitutes internal experience (EXP) in the context of MI, including its definition, significance, and how it differs from traditional change talk. They will explore the theoretical foundations and research supporting the therapeutic benefits of evoking internal experiences.
2. Developing Skills to Evoke Internal Experience: Participants will learn and practice specific techniques for evoking internal experiences in a manner consistent with MI principles. This includes focusing on somatic awareness, present-moment engagement, and relational dynamics. They will engage in exercises to practice these skills in pairs and group settings.
3. Integrating Internal Experience into MI Practice: Participants will explore how to integrate the evocation of internal experiences into their existing MI practice. They will discuss potential adaptations to the OARS framework and consider the development of new acronyms or models to support this integration.
The workshop will encourage reflection on how these practices can be applied in clinical settings to enhance client outcomes. Participants will receive a brief summary of tools learned to apply to their practice.
